About Us
A Mellow Tone is a traditional jazz combo, originally formed in the North Alabama area in 2009. They have performed at weddings, receptions, restaurants, private venues, and corporate events bringing an elegant touch of timeless jazz.
Tracy
Bassist Tracy Cain is a Greenville, NC native and graduate of the East Carolina University School of Music, bringing more than 40 years of experience playing jazz, classical, and a variety of other genres. As co-founder of A Mellow Tone, he is deeply dedicated to traditional jazz and the timeless standards of the Great American Songbook. Inspired by legends such as Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, and Pat Metheny, Tracy now calls Nashville home, where he continues to study and perform
across a wide variety of musical styles.
David
Guitarist David Walker brings many years of playing experience to the combo and is a co-founder of A Mellow Tone. He earned his Master of Music Education from Auburn University and Bachelor of Music Education from the University of North Alabama. During his time in college, he studied classical and jazz guitar, as well as trombone and various other wind and percussion instruments. He has been a school band director for more than 25 years.
David has invested years studying the great jazz guitarists such as Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery, and Jim Hall in order to develop his own style of playing. He enjoys continuing to study many great jazz instrumentalists, and considers jazz a never-ending journey of musical development!
Faith
Vocalist Faith Walker is a classically trained mezzo-soprano who also has a great affinity for jazz. Her love of music started at a young age when she joined the school band. But as time passed, her love of singing became her focus. Starting with private voice lessons and being a member of the Calhoun Community College Choir, these steps formed her future path. Faith earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Auburn University, where she was a member of the Auburn University Chamber Choir. She has also earned her Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from East Carolina University, where she was a member of the ECU Chamber Singers. Faith currently sings with Valley Consort, an 18-voice choral ensemble, which focuses on performing a variety of music from the Renaissance era to the present day.
Faith enjoys a wide range of music genres but is especially fond of jazz legends Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McRae, and Nat King Cole. Before officially joining the combo, Faith performed with A Mellow Tone for events over the past few years.
